The statement in the section on protecting pediphiles for fear of his own sexual encounter with male prostitutes becoming public knowledge is pure speculation. There is no way one can know another person's subjective motivations, i.e., it can never be subject to verification. One might note, e.g., that the incident with the hustler in Chicago occured after the worst of the pediphiles in Spokane has already been laizied and previous to this Bishop Welch's dealing with the problem of priestly pediphilia in the Diocese of Spokane appears to be no differ from that of other Catholic bishops at the time, i.e., no better and no worse than that of the Catholic hierarchy in general. Note I am not defending his actions, but I see no justifiable reason to attributed them to Bishop Welch acting upon a fear of being being outed by the pediphile priests in his diocese as being gay. Not only is this claim not verifiable; it also does not merit an entire sub-section on this wikipedia site. I knew the man after he was made an auxiliary bishop in St. Paul/Minneapolis and he deserves to be remembered for more than simply his having been involved in a one night stand with a hustler in Chicago. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.52.199.50 (talk) 00:54, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned up the article significantly. The statement you are objecting to -- regarding his motivation -- was made by a single attorney in a newspaper article. It no longer has "its own section"; it is now just one sentence in the section about the arrest. Perhaps this sentence should be removed altogether?
I did remove the statement that the prostitute thought that Welsh might have committed murder in the past. This actually appears in the police report, but it appears to have been a temporary speculation that was never substantiated in any way, so it doesn't belong here. — Lawrence King(talk)01:13, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
